How did you get your start as an artist?
I started out making designs for greeting cards on Etsy, as a need for a creative outlet; and at the same time helping to support my family from home.
I have always had an artistic mind. Since childhood, I have been drawn to the 70’s and 80’s vintage vibe, which definitely had a big influence on me and my style.
What is your favorite part of the maker’s process?
Definitely making people happy with my artwork. Knowing that what I made resonated with someone, feels amazing.
How do you go about starting new designs, do you plan ahead or just jump right in?
Both! Sometimes I easily get inspired by vintage art or by nature and I can see what I want to draw in my mind. There are also times that I jump right in until good things happen.
Do you like a tidy work space or functional chaos?
I definitely work better in a tidy workspace, although functional chaos has its place!
What has been your biggest challenge as a professional artist?
Definitely the selling part. I am naturally a little more on the quiet side and it's not always in my nature to advertise my work.
What brings you the most joy outside of the studio?
My family and nature, for sure. I can't do without sunshine for long!
What do you wish to see in the future to support artist owned small businesses?
I hope that there will be a way to distinguish between AI generated art, and art made by a real person, and that people will care enough to support the hardworking artists.
Anything exciting in the works/coming up for you this year?
Working on bettering my health and wellness, both in body and mind, is always a top priority for me. And of course, part of that includes new art designs!
