Intense, playful, and vibrant, the stickers from Juju & Moxie are here to bring you cheer and some smiles.
Local artist Rachel Rae crafts all of the designs with a thoughtful process and in this month’s newsletter you can learn a bit more about her and her work.
What is your favorite part of the maker’s process?
I love working with color palette combinations and use of space and layout...it’s definitely the exciting part of putting a design together.
How do you go about starting new designs, do you plan ahead or just right in?
I usually start with a daily planner page turned to my own grouping of design aspects that get tested and weeded down. I work through overall shape, font choices to fit the vibe, the kind of line work that would invoke the feeling I’m aiming towards and the color palettes that are going to pull it all together. Once I scratch out what works and what doesn’t I go to work digitally.
Do you like a tidy work space or functional chaos?
I prefer a tidy work space but more than not end up in functional chaos :)
What has been your biggest challenge as a professional artist?
Social media. It is not in my wheel house as a creative and while it should be part of my cycle as a working creative it is truly my nemesis.
What brings you the most joy outside the studio?
Going on walks with my husband every morning and taking in the beauty of the desert. I have two kids who keep me busy (in a good way) and I love loving on my two cats, Birdy and Bunny.
What do you wish to see in the future to support artist owned small businesses in AZ?
I would love to see markets that focus on wholesale partnerships on a local level. It’d be really neat to have face to face small Arizona businesses discover in person local creatives and build solid foundations together to help each others dreams thrive.
Anything exciting in the works/coming up for you this year?
We are working on something big (to us at least) that isn’t quite a brick and mortar shop, but isn’t only available at markets during certain times of the year...that’s all I can say for now!
